Bass Pro race car returns as NASCAR reopens

Bass Pro Shops' branding will be prominent on the hood of race car driver Martin Truex Jr.'s Toyota Camry as NASCAR returns after a two-month hiatus.

Truex, who is sponsored by Bass Pro, is among drivers scheduled to compete Sunday at Darlington Raceway in Darlington, South Carolina, according to a news release.

The race Sunday was moved from Chicagoland to Darlington, since many race teams are based in South Carolina. Fans will not be allowed in the stands amid the coronavirus pandemic.

NASCAR drivers have been out of official races since the last Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race on March 8. Officials with the race car organization have called off events due to the outbreak, according to the release.

At the start of the last NASCAR season in 2019, Bass Pro’s sponsorship transferred with Truex to the Joe Gibbs Racing team. Truex previously drove for Furniture Row Racing, which closed at the end of 2018.

The Springfield-based outdoor retailer signed on as Truex’s sponsor in 2017 after a seven-year break with the driver, according to past reporting. Financial terms of the sponsorship have not been disclosed.
