Officials from the health departments of Stone and Taney counties issued a warning of a potential COVID-19 exposure at Silver Dollar City.
An individual who visited the counties while symptomatic on June 15 went to Silver Dollar City, according to a news release. That was the first day the Branson theme park opened to the general public after the pandemic delayed the seasonal launch. Season pass holders were the first to come back June 13-14.
Prior to the opening, Silver Dollar City set safety requirements, including temperature scans and masking for all visitors.
Taney County Health Department Director Lisa Marshall said via email that temperature checks are a component of health screenings that many businesses in the area are using.
"While the majority of those that test positive for COVID-19 do present with fever as a symptom, there are some that do not," she said. "We have also seen some individuals that have mild symptoms and do not realize they are symptomatic until later.
"However, we are seeing health screenings working well and believe them to a good tool in reducing the spread of COVID-19 in our community."
It’s unclear if the person had a fever when they visited Silver Dollar City. The release indicated the person was wearing a face mask, as required.
“While we do not have any more detail than what is in the released report, we do not make exceptions to the new rule: If they have a fever, they, along with their travel party, are not allowed to enter, and asked to return another day,” said Lisa Rau, spokesperson for the theme park.
The individual who visited Silver Dollar City also went to a Panera Bread restaurant, according to the release. The only Panera in Branson is located at 2407 Green Mountain Drive, according to the restaurant's website.
The Taney County Health Department separately issued a news release stating a symptomatic visitor from outside of the state on June 10 went to Top of the Rock. On June 11, they went to Cedar Junction General Store, Downing Street Pour House, Harter House in Hollister and State Park Marina Boat Rental.
