Description: Project officials say they selected the name Sankofa – from the ancient Adinkra symbols – based on their interpretation as “learning from the past ensures a strong future.” For north Springfield, it will soon mean affordable homes, as well as a street-level business incubator and retail space, project officials said. Scheduled to break ground this summer on Commercial Street, Sankofa is envisioned as a four-story development providing 42 units in a mix of studio and one- and two-bedroom apartments, plus communal spaces. The entrepreneurial incubator space is intended to develop minority-owned businesses.
The first southwest Missouri location of EarthWise Pet, a national chain of pet supply stores, opened; Grey Oak Investments LLC relocated; and Hot Bowl by Everyday Thai LLC got its start.
