Gainesville Junior and Senior High School addition
422 Bulldog Drive, Gainesville
Sapp Design Associates Architects PC designed the $3 million, 7,792-square-foot safe room addition to the Gainesville Junior and Senior High School. The addition will provide a new facade to the existing school, administration offices, locker rooms and a single, secure entrance. A multiuse commons space will allow for large collaborative activities and school functions, as well as an expansion of the cafeteria. Design officials say the most important feature of the addition is the safe room designed to withstand 250 mph winds and house 930 people in the event of a tornado warning. Toth and Associates Inc. is the project’s civil and structural engineer; and Interpres Building Solutions LLC is the mechanical, electrical and plumbing engineer. A general contractor has not yet been selected for the project expected to wrap in fall 2022.
