BKD LLP

Posted online

Kim Hamm’s services are just a casual phone call away.

“I really enjoy it when clients call just to bounce off ideas or go through different scenarios they are considering for their business,” she says. “I have a good record of client retention and have received some of my highest ratings in the client service area.”

Hamm joined BKD LLP in 1986 and has been a partner at the national accounting firm for the last 20 years.

As a certified public accountant, she works collaboratively with her client list by offering audit and consulting services in the real estate industry. She has built expertise in low-income housing tax credits and historic rehabilitation credits for real estate developers and investors.

“I have been able to stay active and up to speed on issues that can help my clients be prepared for and react to change. I stay aware of their deadlines and work hard to make sure they are met,” she says. “I believe you must earn the respect of your clients and colleagues, as well as other professionals that you come in contact with on a day-to-day basis.”

Building strong relationships helps Hamm stay on top of what each client needs.

“I need to know what is impacting my clients’ businesses, and help them navigate through both the good and the bad times,” Hamm says. “Being proactive and keeping clients aware of issues impacting their business is my role.”

Hamm takes pride serving as an adviser and mentor for the next generation of accountants by speaking about the profession at high schools and colleges.

“I thoroughly enjoy meeting with students on campus, helping them grow in knowledge and experience as new CPAs, and seeing them earn many promotions throughout their careers, both within the firm, or with other businesses in the area,” she says.

Often filling the role as engagement team leader for audits with clients, Hamm oversees planning and information gathering to project completion.

“Within the BKD team, Kim is well respected as coach and mentor. She is a leader of talent recruiting and development for the BKD team,” says Gary Schafer, managing partner at BKD.

Hamm is active in the community in her roles on the Downtown Springfield Association board, the Drury University Board of Trustees and the advisory committee for the Enactus chapter at Drury, her alma mater.

She is a member of the Missouri Society of Certified Public Accountants, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Association of Government Accountants and the Government Finance Officers Association. She was awarded the Certified Government Financial Manager designation in 1996. Hamm also participates in the National Council of State Housing Agencies conferences and has been both an attendee and exhibitor at American Public Power Association conferences.

“Whether helping to demonstrate compliance with complex laws and regulations or ensuring that their financial reporting is clear and accurate, Kim personally applies her expertise to the projects and issues that matter most to her clients,” Schafer says.
