Posted online
Through all of his success, Marc Mayer hasn’t stopped believing in the success of others. As vice president of commercial loans at Great Southern Bank, Mayer has impacted many of his employees. This year, he stood alongside an employee suffering from breast cancer, coached one of his lenders through the process of a $7.55 million apartment deal, trained two credit analysts who got promoted to commercial lenders and provided the opportunity for a loan assistant to shadow several departments of the bank in order to move into a more challenging position. Mayer’s involvement in the community includes fundraising for the Special Olympics through the Rotary Basketball Tournament and helping Amy Blansit, director of The Northwest Project, attain a loan for The Fairbanks.

What was your first job? Graduate assistant basketball coach at Henderson State University

What is your theme song? “Don’t Stop Believin’,” by Journey

What do you miss most about the 1990s? “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air”

What about your job would shock clients? The job never stops. [You] have to always be building relationships and finding ways to differentiate yourself from your competition.  Also, I don’t golf every day.

What did you learn the hard way? Not to take my health for granted. When I tore my ACL in my knee in 2001, it was a wake-up call that being able to stand, walk or run is a privilege.
