2017 40 Under 40 Honoree: Angela Davis, 39

Posted online
Not many 39-year-olds can say they have 18 years on the job. This is a rarity even for many who are much older. Yet, this is a claim Angela Davis can make. Davis began her tenure with Chateau on the Lake at the age of 18 and has worked her way through the ranks at the resort before earning the position she holds today. As director of event sales, Davis achieves success by investing in others and giving them the tools to be an effective hospitality professionals. Davis enjoys working with the numerous nonprofit organizations of the Tri-Lakes area to help create and host unique events and fundraisers. Davis also volunteers her time and talents providing meals for the homeless.

What was your first job? I was a dishwasher and pot washer at a large restaurant. Still to this day, when I walk by the dish area at work, I think about how very horrible, yet incredibly awesome, my first job was.

When did you realize you had grown up? When I signed up for 401(k) and understood exactly what it was.

What was your professional “aha” moment? When I learned that managing people doesn’t just mean managing those under your supervision but managing those who manage you as well.

What’s your most treasured possession? My grandpa’s dining room chair. No matter the house, no matter the table, he had one that was his, the captain’s seat. When he passed, it was a rickety old chair held together with years and years of glue. It’s a reminder to me to take time to visit with people; someday the chair will be empty.
