Habitat for Humanity of Springfield, Missouri Inc. received a substantial gift from a first-time individual donor.
The $74,000 estate donation was made by an individual who has no known interaction with the Springfield nonprofit, according to a news release. Habitat for Humanity officials declined to identify the individual.
“A gift like this is simply jaw-dropping,” said Abby Glenn, development director for the nonprofit, in the release. “It’s overwhelming to think our mission meant so much to this person. We only wish we had known them so we could properly thank them and their loved ones.”
Habitat for Humanity plans to use the funds to support its affordable housing programs through building homes, completing repairs and providing financial literacy and homeowner education classes.
Habitat for Humanity has built or renovated more than 790 homes to place over 1,500 individuals in Greene, Christian and Webster counties since 1988, according to the release. Habitat for Humanity ranked No. 20 on Springfield Business Journal’s list last month of the area’s largest charitable nonprofits. The organization reported an operating budget of $2.9 million and 29 employees.
The nonprofit recently named Jeff Nagy as its executive director to succeed the retired Larry Peterson. Nagy most recently worked for four years as managing director of Perceptron Consulting LLC, a business intelligence management company in Silicon Valley.
