Springfield Public Schools stakeholders, including Superintendent John Jungmann, far right, ceremonially break ground Aug. 5 on the district’s new multimillion-dollar Southwest Region Early Childhood Center, on property near Carver Middle School. Officials say the event marked the first groundbreaking of a major project under Proposition S, a $168 million bond issue approved by voters in April. Other planned Prop S projects include new construction of Delaware Elementary School for $23.8 million and renovation of Sunshine Elementary School for $13.9 million.
