The Springfield operation of Austin, Texas-based Vital Farms has been recognized on a nationwide scale for sustainability.
The facility in Partnership Industrial Center West, nicknamed Egg Central Station, has been selected as Sustainable Plant of the Year by Food Engineering magazine, according to a news release.
The plant's sustainability initiatives include LED lighting, solar panels and a stormwater management system designed to improve energy efficiency. The goal is to achieve zero-waste-to-landfill status by year's end.
"The conservation features at ECS are a tangible way to tell the story of how you can be sustainable, a profitable company and create a good working environment, all while putting out a quality product," Vital Farms Plant Operations Director Carl Kicklighter said in the release.
Vital Farms' Springfield plant grew to 150,000 square feet in an expansion that was completed last year, according to past reporting. The facility has the ability to process 6 million eggs daily with a capacity team of 225, Springfield Business Journal previously reported.
Moseley’s Discount Office Products was purchased; Side Chick opened in Branson; and the Springfield franchise store of NoBaked Cookie Dough changed ownership.
