Glen Walker, the founder of Strafford-based trucking company TransLand, has died. He was 89.
Walker, who died Nov. 17, had dementia and Alzheimer's disease over a 15-year period, according to his obituary posted to the website of Greenlawn Funeral Home.
"Glen Walker, an exceptional leader and visionary, founded our company 42 years ago with a clear vision: to create a workplace where people and their families could thrive," company officials said in a LinkedIn post. "His commitment to doing the right thing, even when it's hard, has been the cornerstone of our company's success."
The company was founded as Terminal Consolidation Co. in 1982, when Walker left Frisco Transportation – the trucking line of the railroad company – after the Burlington Northern merger with Frisco, according to Springfield Business Journal archives.
Current CEO Mark Walker, Glen's son, became the company's leader in 2013.
In 2022, year-over-year revenue was up 15% at TransLand, according to past reporting.
The first southwest Missouri location of EarthWise Pet, a national chain of pet supply stores, opened; Grey Oak Investments LLC relocated; and Hot Bowl by Everyday Thai LLC got its start.
