Architect Hood-Rich Inc. is working with Altera Development Co. LLC on a $91 million hotel and convention center in Allen, Texas. The 280,560-square-foot project comprises a six-story, 300-room hotel, along with a convention center and a 1,000-car parking garage on a seven-acre site for Marriott’s new line of full-service hotels, Delta. The hotel will include an outdoor courtyard with a pool, fitness center and restaurant. General contractor Crossland Construction Co. Inc. is working with Canadian engineer Stantec, civil, structural and landscape; Irving, Texas-based Venture Mechanical Inc., mechanical; and Dallas-based Telios, electrical and plumbing. Financed by IBC Bank of Laredo, the project is expected to wrap in October 2018.

Slone Architects & Interior Designers Inc. is designing a $9.1 million Fairfield Inn & Suites for Erherdt’s Warrensburg LLC. The contemporary 91-unit, four-story hotel includes a fitness area, an indoor pool, spacious continental breakfast area and a corner market with healthy grab-and-go food options. General contractor Thomas Construction Inc. is working with engineers Kaw Valley Engineering, civil; and Latifi Engineering, mechanical, electrical and plumbing. The hotel should be complete this month.

In an ongoing conversation with the Wonderscope Children’s Museum of Kansas City about the potential of co-locating a Mid-Continent Public Library branch, both groups realized they had similar missions. Discussions transpired at a joint workshop in June 2016, and a second workshop in October, leading to schematic designs by Sapp Design Associates Architects PC and cost estimates. The effort culminated in a $15 million to $16 million preliminary design solution Wonderscope will now use in its capital campaign.

Stone County Judicial Center addition and renovation

NForm Architecture LLC is designing a $4.5 million, 14,000-square-foot addition to the Stone County Judicial Center and a 8,500-square-foot interior renovation of the existing facility to accommodate added security screening, courtrooms, jury assembly space, attorney-client conference rooms, offices, direct access to certain county offices with screening and an enlarged kitchen at the jail, as well as added holding cells. Site renovations call for additional parking at the front entry and secure parking for court personnel. Work will take multiple years, wrapping up in summer 2019.

Paragon Architecture Inc. is designing a $2.5 million renovation for Thayer High School to accommodate the increased student population of the school district.
The addition and renovation of the original high school comprises eight classrooms, expansion of existing cafeteria and administration space, and electrical service upgrades throughout. Slated for completion in August 2019, construction manager McKinstry Co. LLC is working with engineers Anderson Enginnering Inc., civil; J&M Engineering LLC, structural; Malone Finkle Eckhardt & Collins Inc., mechanical, electrical and plumbing; and Terracon Consultants Inc., geotechnical.

Ireland Architects Inc. is designing a $2 million homeless shelter for The Kitchen Inc. With 50 beds for individuals and families, the maximum allowed by city ordinance, the shelter also will feature a fenced playground and kennels for the temporary tenants. Slated for completion in April 2018, Base Construction & Management LLC is general contractor and K. Evans Interiors is handling interior design work. Project engineers are Heithaus Engineering & Associates Inc., civil; J&M Engineering LLC, structural; and Interpres Building Solutions Inc., mechanical, electrical and plumbing.

West Vue Inc. hired Gaskin Hill Norcoss of Missouri Inc. to design its $5 million Green House project, a national model for skilled-nursing care. Phase 1 will consist of three homes – each with 10 private bedrooms – with the area master-planned for up to 10 homes, interspersed parking and an administration building. The development will have the feel of a residential neighborhood street, designed to evoke the image of farmhouses with screened porches. General contractor Gentry Construction Co. Inc. is working with engineers Gaskin Hill Norcoss, structural and mechanical, electrical and plumbing; and Frank Zanaboni, landscape. The project is slated for completion in August 2018.

Developer BC Center LLC hired Springfield architecture firm H Design Group LLC, general contractor BP Builders LLC and property manager Affiniti Management Services LLC for the $30 million, 292,000-square-foot project located near the Bentonville Community Center and a new Mercy clinic. The development will provide modern apartment living with resort-style amenities for young professionals broken into three phases. The three-story apartment project has gated entrances, meeting spaces on each floor and one- to three-bedroom options. Local engineers are Mettemeyer Engineering LLC, structural; and CJD Engineering LLC, mechanical, electrical and plumbing. Bentonville-based CEI Engineering Associates Inc. is the civil engineer on the project slated for completion next summer.

Dake Wells Architecture Inc. is working with the El Dorado Springs R-2 School District on a $5.2 million high school addition, including a new entrance, gymnasium and performing arts wing. The grand entry plaza with wide seating and a large welcoming staircase gives the school a new presence from the street. The school hired Branco Enterprises Inc. as its construction manager at-risk, with work expected to begin this fall and wrap in fall 2018. Project engineers are Anderson Engineering Inc., civil; J&M Engineering LLC, structural; and Interpres Building Solutions Inc., mechanical, electrical and plumbing engineer.

Plans call for two, four-story apartment and retail buildings connected with walkways on the upper floors. The project combines one-bedroom and studio apartments above retail or assembly space on the ground floor. Slated for completion in July 2018, general contractor Larry Snyder & Co. is working with engineers Lee Engineering and Associates LLC, civil; Miller Engineering PC, structural; and Pellham-Phillips Architects and Engineers Inc., mechanical, electrical and plumbing.

Estimated to open Sept. 1, Arcade City mixes gaming with a 7-D dark ride adventure – which combines elements from roller coaster simulators – and The Mirror Maize, an indoor corn maze using all mirrors. Bates & Associates Inc. is designing a $3.74 million senior center for the city of Joplin on the site of the old Mercy hospital. The facility has a series of covered patios, a full dining hall with a commercial kitchen, two large flex spaces, a billiards room, a fitness room, conference center, health services office and administration offices. Set for completion in April 2018, general contractor R.E. Smith Construction Co. is working with engineers CEI Engineering Associates Inc. (Bentonville, Arkansas), civil; Wells & Scaletty LLC, structural; and Smith-Goth Engineers Inc., mechanical, electrical and plumbing.

Hideaway Development is working with Insight Design Architects LLC to rehab the historic building at the corner of Main and Mount Vernon streets in Nixa. A key intersection in the city’s history, the revitalization plan includes ground floor retail and upper-level offices and event space. General contractor On-Side Construction LLC is working with engineers Tom Edelman, structural; and Jeff Green, mechanical, electrical and plumbing. The rehab is slated to be complete this fall.

Trekk Design Group LLC is working on a $200,000 trenchless rehabilitation of the sanitary sewer for the city of Mount Vernon. The project consists of such improvements as cured-in-place pipe lining, grouting of lateral connections, point repairs and manhole replacements in an effort to remove sources of infiltration and inflow from entering the sanitary sewer. A completion date has not been set.

Ouachita Electric Cooperative hired Toth and Associates Inc. for electrical and structural engineering on 13.5 miles of 115 kilovolt transmission line from the new Summerville Switch Station to the existing Summerville distribution station. Toth will establish the route, complete an environmental impact statement, procure right-of-way, design line and administer construction contracts for the project slated to be complete this summer.

Zimmerman Properties LLC, Zimmerman Properties Construction LLC and Wilhoit Properties Inc. are moving to a two-story, 32,000-square-foot office incorporating a glass facade with a glass canopy and a cantilevering conference room. Designed by Buxton-Kubik-Dodd Inc., general contractor Base Construction & Management LLC is targeting a spring 2018 completion. Other project engineers are Kaw Valley Engineering Inc., civil, and Miller Engineering PC, structural.

Designed by Paragon Architecture Inc., the 5,600-square-foot space complements the existing facade and includes four flexible classroom spaces and a large shared learning park. General contractor R.E. Smith Construction Co. expects work to wrap this summer. Additional engineers are Olsson Associates Inc., civil; and Toth and Associates Inc., structural.

O’Reilly Development Co. is building a 130,500-square-foot, $24 million senior living center in the Joplin community of Wildwood Ranch. Olsson Associates Inc. is handling civil and geotechnical engineering, boundary and topographic surveying, as well as platting services for a 19-acre tract. The senior community will include 80 independent living units, 50 assisted living units and 16 memory care units. Architect H Design Group LLC is working with general contractor O’Reilly Build LLC. Other engineers are J&M Engineering LLC, structural; and CJD Engineering LLC, mechanical, electrical and plumbing. Work is slated for completion in summer 2018.

Mechanical, electrical and plumbing engineer Interpres Building Solutions Inc. is working with Ozarks Technical Community College on its Workforce Development Center. Designed by nForm Architecture LLC, the 25,000-square-foot building will house a new welding and fabrication lab, classroom and support areas, as well as storage facilities for the college. General contractor Rich Kramer Construction Inc. is working with Toth and Associates Inc. for civil and structural engineering work. The project is set to wrap up this winter.

Prime Inc.’s Springfield terminal expansion includes a $4.8 million tractor and trailer wash. Gaskin Hill Norcoss of Missouri Inc. is serving as electrical and mechanical engineer, as well as project architect. This 24,800-square-foot building will house five automated wash bays and a campus maintenance shop. The project includes a radiant floor heating system, a snow melt apron, a solar array and a wastewater reclamation system. Killian Construction Co. is general contractor on the project slated for completion in September. Lee Engineering and Associates LLC is providing civil work.

Mechanical, electrical and plumbing engineer CJD Engineering LLC is working on a $3.6 million addition to Nixa’s Aldersgate United Methodist Church. This 26,000-square-foot, two-story addition from H Design Group LLC will include additional children and adult classrooms, a multipurpose space, administrative offices and increased security. Additional engineers are Pinnacle Design Consultants LLC, civil, and Mettemeyer Engineering LLC, structural. A general contractor has not been selected, but the organizers are planning a fall 2018 completion.

Veterans Affairs outpatient clinic

Mechanical, electrical and plumbing engineer Conway Duncan Inc. is working with developer RKS Holdings LLC on a $3.25 million community-based outpatient clinic for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Designed by Hunter & Millard Architects Inc., the 26,700-square-foot infill consists of medical clinics within an existing office building. The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design-certified project is slated for a June 2018 completion.

Route PP emergency bridge replacement
Ozark County
After floodwaters destroyed the James Bridge in Ozark County, the Missouri Department of Transportation Southeast District began working with Bartlett & West Inc. to address the emergency. Located just north of Dawt Mill, the civil engineering firm designed the 420-foot, four-span prestressed concrete bridge in three weeks. Currently under construction, the $2.6 million replacement is expected to reopen to traffic in mid-September.

The relocation of Connelly Plumbing Co. involves an extensive exterior renovation and interior infill for its new office. Esterly, Schneider & Associates Inc. designed a modernized glass and metal facade wrapping around the building, as well as the internal addition of numerous offices and workspaces for developer Hideaway Investments LLC. Natural lighting and transparency play key roles in the design. Work is slated for completion in October 2017.
