A Trader Joe's store is not currently planned in Springfield, a spokesperson with the company said this morning.
Springfield Business Journal reached out to Trader Joe's after a Springfield News-Leader report this morning indicated a location in the Queen City was in the works.
"We have plans to open a store in Springfield, Virginia. When corresponding with that reporter, unfortunately, neither of us referenced a state," Trader Joe's Public Relations Manager Nakia Rohde said via email. "We are actively looking at hundreds of neighborhoods across the country as we hope to open more new neighborhood stores each year. At this time, we do not have a location confirmed in Springfield, MO."
Missouri Springfieldians have long asked for a Trader Joe's to come to town. A member of the Bring Trader Joe's to Springfield, Mo Facebook group this week posted that Trader Joe's is working with a real estate developer in Missouri for a location in Springfield. The group has nearly 3,800 members.
