Seattle Roast Coffee closes shop at south-side library

Posted online

Seattle Roast Coffee has closed its south-side Library Center shop after less than a year in operation.

Springfield-Greene County Library District Community Relations Director Kathleen O'Dell said via email that the coffee shop shuttered at 5 p.m. Saturday.

"We have not yet determined what to do with that space," she said.

Seattle Roast Coffee, which opened at the Library Center in March 2022, announced the closure in a Facebook post yesterday.

"Due to supply chain issues, higher product pricing and some personal medical issues, we can no longer operate Seattle Roast Coffee at the Library Center," the post reads. "The Springfield-Greene County Library District Library Center has been an incredible partner, and we’ve had a wonderful experience working with their team.

"We also deeply appreciate our team members and provided them with severance pay for a week and a recommendation for their next employment opportunity."

The post indicates Library Center customers can redeem their gift cards at Seattle Roast Coffee's downtown shop through Feb. 25.

Developer Morris Dock brought the concept to town in 2020 with the opening of Seattle Roast Coffee at the former home of Bistro Market and a Starbucks counter in downtown Springfield, according to past reporting.

Mudhouse Coffee previously operated the coffee shop at the Library Center since 2008 but exited in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic, according to past reporting.
