Republic School District Superintendent Chance Wistrom signaled plans to retire at the end of the school year in mid-2020.
In a video announcement, Wistrom said he’s “pursuing a venture outside of public education where I can serve in another way.”
“There comes a time that you realize life is short. As you serve the needs of so many, you realize sometimes you neglect service to those closest to you,” he said in the video.
Later in the video, Wistrom was joined by Assistant Superintendent Matt Pearce. Wistrom is slated to be succeeded by Pearce on July 1, 2020. The school board approved the transition at its Dec. 19 meeting, according to the video.
“He’s a man who is probably the finest leader and man I’ve ever had the privilege to work with,” Wistrom said.
Wistrom has led the district as superintendent for eight years. A leadership succession plan was developed in 2017, according to a news release.
Pearce has been assistant superintendent since 2013.
Republic School District officials could not be reached for more details by deadline.
