Greene County is among the most generous counties statewide, according to a new report from financial data tracking firm SmartAsset.
The report ranks Greene County No. 8 in Missouri and No. 799 in the nation. SmartAsset analyzed IRS data to calculate how much people donate as a percentage of their net income and the proportion of people in each county who make charitable donations.
In Greene County, contributions as a percentage of income came to 1.8%. The percentage of returns itemizing charitable contributions was 4.2%.
Greene County has a charitable county index score of 22.14 out of a possible 100 points, according to SmartAsset.
Locally, only Christian County fared better, with 1.7% of contributions as a percentage of income and a 5.4% percentage of returns itemizing charitable contributions. Christian County is No. 5 in the state.
No. 1 in the state is St. Louis County. The county had 2.2% and 9.2% for percentage of income and percentage of returns itemizing charitable contributions, respectively, according to the report.
Benton County, Arkansas, is No. 1 nationwide, with 15.7% of contributions as a percentage of income and 7.2% of returns itemizing charitable contributions.
