The 2022 Price Cutter Charity Championship marks the last tournament under the leadership of Jerald Andrews.
Andrews, executive director of the PCCC and the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame, stepped down yesterday, according to a news release. The 70-year-old plans to stay on board for six months as a consultant for new leader Byron Shive.
“It’s still as much of a thrill as the first day I came in. I can recall vividly Oct. 18, 1995, driving in, crossing the James River, driving up the hill and thinking, ‘Wow. A new beginning. Something really exciting,’” Andrews said in the release. "I still get the same excitement.”
Andrews announced his intentions to leave the Hall of Fame and PCCC leadership roles in summer 2021. At the time, he said he wasn't retiring, and retirement plans were not mentioned in the release.
On Oct. 11, Andrews is scheduled to be inducted into the Hall of Fame and honored as a Missouri Sports Legend, recognition that comes with a bronze bust to be showcaseds on the Legends Walkway.
During Andrews' tenure, the Hall of Fame recognized 1,208 honorees, expanded its induction ceremonies to seven annually and operated in the black financially starting with his third year at the organization. Not including this year's tournament results, the PCCC has raised nearly $18.4 million since 1990.
“It’s really been rewarding,” Andrews said in the release. "Although it’s been a struggle at times to help all the charities, I always felt it was important to help as many as possible."
Shive, Andrews' successor, was hired in early 2021 to begin the transition process, according to past reporting. The career shift from his general legal practice – Byron K. Shive, Attorney-At-Law LLC in Bolivar – connected with what he’s called a lifelong passion.
