T.H.E Spot
After a couple years operating a food truck, the owners of The Hibachi Experience LLC have added a brick-and-mortar restaurant, dubbed T.H.E Spot, in central Springfield. Co-owners Ricardo “Ricky” Ubaldo and Jorge Chan opened the roughly 2,100-square-foot eatery at 533 S. Kimbrough Ave. in space formerly occupied by Mimi’s Soulfood LLC. Ubaldo and Chan said customer demand for their food on a more regular basis than what the food truck could provide was a motivation to launch the restaurant, which employs nine. They declined to disclose startup costs or terms of their three-year lease. The owners say they also hope to add a bar in the venue in addition to the venture’s menu of made-to-order hibachi. The menu is the same for the eatery and food truck, which the duo said will travel more frequently outside Springfield. Food served includes choices of protein, such as steak, chicken, shrimp and pork bulgogi, mixed with rice, veggies, noodles and sauce. Meal prices range $16-$25.
