Huey Magoo’s
The first Huey Magoo’s chicken tenders eatery in Missouri debuted April 25 at 3352 E. Sunshine St. Franchisees James and Lisa Tillman brought the Florida-based restaurant chain to the Queen City, and the Sunshine Street location is one of five restaurants the couple plans to open in the Springfield area. The 2,900-square-foot building was developed by Tillman Investments LLC, and Lisa Tillman said their startup costs were $500,000. The building previously housed a Kum & Go convenience store near U.S. Highway 65. Huey Magoo’s has a franchise fee of $35,000, with royalty fees of 5% and marketing fees of 2%, according to its website. She said manager Larissa Compo leads a staff of 50 at the Springfield restaurant. Tillman said the company recently opened its 50th shop, adding she and her husband next plan to open a Huey Magoo’s location in Ozark by October at 5402 N. 23rd St., replacing a former car wash. The chain’s menu includes chicken tenders, sandwiches, wraps and salads. Prices for most items range $7-$20.

The Ozarker Lodge
The Ozarker Lodge, a $10 million boutique hotel in Branson, opened June 30. The 102-room, 36,000-square-foot venture is located at 965 State Highway 165. BP Builders LLC was general contractor for the renovation and expansion project designed by Kansas City-based Clockwork. Detroit firm Parini handled interior design. Jeremy Wells and Dustin Myers, partners in Springfield hospitality branding firm Longitude LLC and investment group Flyover Developments LLC, teamed with national firm Eagle Point Hotel Partners on the project, which involved renovating the former Fall Creek Inn & Suites, as well as expanding the building to add a lobby, coffee shop and wine bar. Wells said construction and supply chain delays pushed back the opening from its originally targeted date in late May. Exterior amenities include a new heated pool, a playground, fire pits and creek-side soaking hot tubs. The Ozarker Lodge’s website lists summer rates ranging $122-$189. Most rooms are 288 square feet with suites either 386 or 483 square feet.

Jamaican Patty Co.
Jamaican Patty Co., which has offered authentic Jamaican cuisine in Springfield since 2008, has launched a new location. Du’Sean Howard, who owns the restaurant venture with his wife, Latoya, said July 14 was the first day of business downtown at 301 Park Central West. Declining to disclose startup costs, Howard said the business penned a lease for undisclosed terms to occupy 1,500 square feet. Greene County assessor records show that KOJO LLC owns the building, which has housed Hurts Donut Co., self-serve yogurt shop Fria and candy store Queen City Soda & Sweets. Jamaican Patty Co., which additionally operates a restaurant at 3439 S. Campbell Ave. and a food truck, serves a variety of Jamaican patty sandwiches, as well as vegan options and a catering menu. Menu prices range $4.50-$21.
