A new Starbucks store is in the works in northwest Springfield near Interstate 44.
A late summer 2022 opening is projected for a Starbucks cafe at 2817 N. Kansas Expressway, said Don Linden, who owns the property through Linden Properties Missouri LLC. The property had been listed for lease or ground lease through commercial real estate firm Cushman & Wakefield's St. Louis office.
Villa Rica, Georgia-based Caliber 1 Construction is serving as general contractor for the 2,100-square-foot store, Linden said. Godwin & Associates Architects & Engineers Inc. is the project architect.
A shuttered Payless ShoeSource on the site is slated to be demolished to make way for the corporate-owned Starbucks store.
Starbucks' website lists 17 stores in the Queen City. The February opening of Springfield's second Hy-Vee Inc. store brought with it a new Starbucks, and a location in Battlefield Mall closed late last year, according to past reporting.
