Nixa council authorizes $100K for community pool repairs

Nixa City Council has authorized up to $100,000 for repairs to a community pool that has not opened for the season due to a leak.

Council gave funding authorization to Nixa Parks and Recreation during an emergency meeting held yesterday, according to a news release.

The city initially disclosed the "significant leak" in the community pool at The X Center in McCauley Park in late May. However, the cost for repairs had not yet been estimated publicly.

The budget amendment approved by council yesterday uses money from the aquatics reserve account, a savings account for pool-related repairs and maintenance, according to the release.

Parks Department officials have been in talks with a contractor on the work needed, according to the city. The work would involve digging under a portion of the concrete pool deck to gain access to the leaking pipe fitting. Other factors must be considered, such as whether other sections of pipe need to be replaced and if rock or dirt must be filled in.

"We do not yet have a definitive timeline for the repairs or when we will be able to open the pool, as the repair process will depend on some variable factors," officials said in the release.
