Man charged with robbing Springfield bank

A local man was charged for allegedly robbing a Guaranty Bank branch in northeast Springfield.

Charles King Jr., 56, of Springfield, allegedly used a note that read, “I have a gun this is a robbery," to steal $8,815 from the bank at 2109 N. Glenstone Ave., on July 10, according to a news release from the office of Teresa Moore, acting U.S. attorney for the Western District of Missouri.

Law enforcement received an anonymous tip on July 19 that King was staying at the Springfield Inn near Kearney Street and North Glenstone Avenue. After King left the hotel in a vehicle, Springfield Police Department officers conducted a car stop and arrested him.

The affidavit filed in support of the criminal complaint indicates King told an FBI agent he used $2,400 in stolen money to buy the used Scion Cube he was driving. He said he gave away some of the money and spent the rest, according to the affidavit.

Additionally, King was reportedly identified by his former probation officer when video footage of the robbery was released, according to the release.
