A French court convicted two former Ikea executives of spying on union representatives, employees and some unhappy customers in France, resulting in fines and damages exceeding $1.3 million for the Swedish home furnishings company.
The high-profile trial uncovered Ikea’s French subsidiary obtained personal data by fraudulent means between 2009 and 2012. According to The Associated Press, the espionage scheme was used to sift out trouble-making employees and to profile squabbling customers.
