Ozarks Food Harvest’s largest annual fundraiser set a new record.
Hungerthon, a radiothon fundraiser in partnership with iHeartRadio Springfield, brought in $260,422 Sept. 9-12, according to a news release.
The funds go towards Ozarks Food Harvest's weekend backpack program. It will provide meals for 723 children during every weekend of the school year.
“It’s always such an honor to work with Ozarks Food Harvest to help feed children facing hunger in our community,” said Clint “Girlie” Gerlek, vice president of programming for iHeartRadio Springfield and Hungerthon co-host, in the release. “Thank you to everyone who made a donation.”
Hungerthon now has raised around $2.6 million and provided 1.8 million meals to children in southwest Missouri since 1999.
Gurlek and Hungerthon co-host Jennifer “Hemmy” Hemmer, program director for iHeartRadio Springfield, helped raised the funds as listeners tuned in to the company's local radio stations, according to the release.
The previous record of $254,910 was set in 2021, according to past reporting.
Moseley’s Discount Office Products was purchased; Side Chick opened in Branson; and the Springfield franchise store of NoBaked Cookie Dough changed ownership.
