Greene County Clerk Shane Schoeller is seeking state office.

Schoeller has announced his candidacy for Missouri secretary of state in the 2024 election, according to a news release.

“Free elections are the foundation of our Republic,” Schoeller said in the release. “It’s been an honor to serve as Greene County’s election authority since 2015. I will use that experience as secretary of state to ensure that Missouri’s elections are secure, fair and accurate.”

Schoeller, a Republican, is seeking the role currently held by Jay Ashcroft, who is expected to run for governor next year.

In addition to Schoeller, Democrat Alan Gray is the only other person with active paperwork on file with the Missouri Ethics Commission for the secretary of state role in the August 2024 election.

Prior his time as Greene County clerk, Schoeller was a state representative and worked a stint as executive director of the Missouri Republican Party, according to his LinkedIn profile.
