Greene County Circuit Clerk Tom Barr this week announced his candidacy for the Missouri House of Representatives.
Barr is running for the newly reconfigured District 137, serving eastern Greene County and parts of southeast Springfield, according to a news release. The new District 137 is not held by an incumbent, according to a spokesperson for Barr's campaign. Reps. John Black and Craig Fishel previously represented the areas, the spokesperson said.
A Republican, Barr's campaign platform focuses on government accountability and fiscal conservatism.
“An important role of government is service to citizens," Barr said in the release. “It has been my core focus as the circuit clerk to modernize procedures and eliminate red tape. I plan to bring my skills and experience in the private sector and government to the Missouri legislature."
Barr has served as Greene County circuit clerk since 2015. He previously owned Ozark Mailing Services, a company he founded in 1982 and sold in 2010.
