Greene County awards $10.5M in ARPA funds

The Greene County Commission yesterday approved $10.5 million worth of American Rescue Plan Act allocations.

The 28 awards went to governmental entities, according to a news release.

At $5.3 million, the top award went to the Greene County Resource Management Department. The department plans to use the funds to replace heating, ventilating and air conditioning equipment and windows, as well as other deferred maintenance projects.

The next largest awards were in the $500,000 range:
• Springfield-Greene County Office of Emergency Management, $535,400 to upgrade technology.
• C ity of Willard, $500,000 to upgrade an outdoor play space so it's more inclusive for children with neurologic and physical development disorders.
• Sheriff Arnott's Distinguished Posse Inc., $500,000 to construct a firing range facility for law enforcement training.
• Springfield-Greene County Library District, $500,000 to develop a business connect center to support entrepreneurs and remote workers.

“The commission always enjoys a productive working relationship with our municipal and community partners that serve citizens,” Presiding Commissioner Bob Dixon said in the release. “We’re pleased to see the very thoughtful and thorough process of federal funds as these partners know best for what’s needed in their areas, and we look forward to continuing our great partnership for the benefit of the citizens of Greene County.”

With the latest allocation, Greene County has awarded $48.2 million of its $56.9 million in ARPA funds, according to county officials.

Greene County’s ARPA funds must be allocated by the end of 2024, and all projects funded by the county must be completed by the end of 2026, according to the release.
