Estimated completion: June 2022
Project description: The Preston is a 100-unit, four-story senior living facility being erected on Weller Avenue north of Independence Street. “The overall concept is independent living favoring more of the luxury finishes,” said Chase Foster, senior project manager with Thomas Construction. He said features include shuffleboard and pickleball courts, a pool, movie theater and beauty salon. Also in the works are an Amazon Hub Locker to receive deliveries, a large dining facility and medical exam rooms. Both one- and two-bedroom units will be available. Foster said the project is now scheduled to be completed in June 2022, a year past its original completion date, according to past Springfield Business Journal reporting. A change in the general contractor, from JSB Investments LLC, and pandemic-related delays led to the change. “There were a lot of complications for all construction projects with COVID,” Foster said, citing labor shortages and material increases. “We were able to overcome those obstacles and move forward.”
