Description: An updated Lawrence County Health Department facility is under construction in a new development area on the south side of Mount Vernon, according to project officials. The facility will house the Women, Infants and Children program, plus exam rooms, vaccination and immunization rooms, administrative offices and storage and filing space. A community room is another feature, as are drive-thru vaccination bays. A November 2023 news release from county officials states the construction cost includes the building, sitework and a 40- by 60-foot outbuilding to be shared with the Emergency Management Agency. It adds that since 1995, the Health Department has occupied a 6,000-square-foot converted grocery store, and before that it was housed in a 1,000-square-foot section of the courthouse basement.
