The Foundation for Springfield Public Schools awarded $195,600 worth of back-to-school grants to the district.

The foundation delivered 96 grants to 47 Springfield Public Schools sites, according to a news release. Awarded to educators districtwide who submitted grant requests, the funds provide additional support for classroom projects.

"Educators across our district received incredible support, further equipping them to creatively and effectively connect with our students," SPS Superintendent Grenita Lathan said in the release. "We deeply appreciate the Foundation for Springfield Public Schools and all who give of their resources and time to help us provide engaging, relevant and personal learning experiences for every learner, every day.”

The back-to-school grant program is supported by donations from businesses and community members.

Projects funded this year include a classroom lab that will grow plants, purposeful playing materials for early childhood classrooms and an art around the world initiative, said Foundation for SPS Development Director Tina Pham.
