First student-managed investment fund launches at C of O

A new student-managed investment fund is the first of its kind at College of the Ozarks.

Ten C of O students are leading the Gates of Opportunity Investment Fund. The college's board of trustees approved the establishment of the fund during its semiannual meeting on April 25, according to a news release issued this morning.

“College of the Ozarks began as and remains an institution built upon the trust between benefactors and the campus community. The Gates of Opportunity Investment Fund speaks for the student population in declaring their interest in the college’s legacy,” said Gabe Rader, one of the founders of the investment fund and a spring 2023 graduate, in the release.

The 10 founding students of the initiative researched student-managed investment funds at other higher education institutions. The ongoing fund will allow students to make investments, with proceeds going toward scholarships at the college, and receive investing experience.

“We are committed to the fund’s legacy by developing our talents as they pertain to investing and financial literacy," Rader said in the release. "Just as those who came before us were committed to ensuring students receive the unique opportunity College of the Ozarks offers, we intend to do the same for future students through this fund’s earnings and the lessons it will teach.”
