Drury signs school transfer agreement for new engineering program

Drury University has signed a school transfer agreement for the upcoming launch of its new engineering program.

Through the deal with Mission University, students at the Christian school formerly known as Baptist Bible College can study engineering through Drury’s new program, starting this fall, while working on their associate degrees at Mission, according to a news release. The partnership is designed to shorten Mission students' time to graduation when they transfer to Drury.

"Students would experience a mix of life and academics at both institutions, each capitalizing on their strengths,” Mission University President Mark Milioni said in the release. “Through this partnership, we aspire to prepare a new generation of engineers who will be equipped to tackle global challenges. Together, we are committed to fostering a dynamic learning environment that nurtures creativity and excellence in engineering. Mission University is eager to enter into this new partnership."

Launching in fall 2024, the Department of Engineering at Drury is slated to offer bachelor’s degrees in electrical and mechanical engineering, according to past Springfield Business Journal reporting. The department is led by Chair Bob Throne, who was hired last year from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, Indiana, where he taught for 21 years.

"The program will feature built-in labs or projects that apply theory to practice to give students the hands-on experience necessary for electrical and mechanical engineering," Throne said in the release.

The Department of Engineering will be housed in the renovated former Breech School of Business Administration building.
