Springfield-based outdoor equipment retailer Artemis Overland Hardware is the focus of a new Better Business Bureau report alleging customer service issues.
The nonprofit watchdog BBB cited consumer complaints in a news release this morning alleging the company failed to deliver ordered products, provide refunds and contact customers.
Artemis Overland Hardware, founded in 2018 by Aaron Matkowski and Keri Franklin, reported fast revenue growth for Springfield Business Journal's 2022 Dynamic Dozen awards. The company, which sells equipment for extreme camping, off-road traveling and outdoor gear, reported 2021 revenue of $1.56 million, representing three-year growth of 500%.
Matkowski could not be reached for comment by deadline, and the company's business phone number went unanswered this morning with a message that the mailbox is full.
The BBB release indicates its officials were unable to reach the business for a response to the consumer complaints.
Artemis Overland Hardware's BBB profile indicates the business is not accredited with the organization. The company has an F rating in the profile.
“Staying in communication with your customers is vital,” said Pamela Hernandez, BBB Springfield regional director, in the release. “If this business can’t deliver the goods its customers have paid for, it should issue refunds.”
Beyond the BBB, reports of customer service issues are mentioned in reviews on Facebook and Google.
Some of the Google review complaints have been answered by the owner, who recently cited "office help turnover" for delays.
Artemis Overland Hardware was registered in 2018 with the Missouri secretary of state's office as a fictitious name, indicating it was the dba for Artemis Trading Group LLC. The fictitious name expired in March, though Artemis Trading Group is still active, according to online secretary of state records.
Moseley’s Discount Office Products was purchased; Side Chick opened in Branson; and the Springfield franchise store of NoBaked Cookie Dough changed ownership.
