The Arc of the Ozarks’ $10 million Autism and Neurodevelopmental Center has opened to patients.
Today is opening day for the 2864 S. Nettleton Ave. clinic, according to a news release.
"For too many years, children and families from our region have been forced to travel to Kansas City, Columbia or St. Louis for both diagnosis and treatment of autism and other neurodevelopmental disorders," Arc of the Ozarks President and CEO Michael Powers said in the release. "This new center will bring all those resources to southwest Missouri."
The clinic is the first autism center in the region and joins six others statewide, according to past reporting. With partners Mercy and Missouri State University, Arc leadership secured $5 million in matching funds to start the center.
"Our goals include providing timely assessments, best-practice behavioral health and medical treatments, and helping our patients reach their highest potential throughout each stage of life," said Dr. Kyle John, the clinic's medical director, in the release. "Our mission is to provide not just therapies, but a compassionate embrace that nurtures their unique qualities, allowing them to thrive, connect and shine in their own beautiful way."
Arc of the Ozarks purchased Empower: abilities' former building for the autism clinic, according to past reporting. Q & Co. LLC was hired as general contractor for the $2 million remodeling of the building designed by Buxton Kubik Dodd Design Collective. The remainder of the $10 million comprises the building purchase, equipment and furnishings, and startup and operational expenses, according to Arc of the Ozarks officials.
