Five companies took home top honors last night at Springfield Business Journal's annual Economic Impact Awards.
SBJ recognized organizations for years in business during an event at Oasis Hotel & Convention Center.
Top honors went to:
• Hurts Donut Co. for 1-10 years in business.
• Jordan Valley Community Health Center for 11-20 years in business.
• Discovery Center of Springfield Inc. for 21-35 years in business.
• Victory Mission and Ministry for 36-74 years in business.
• Mercy Springfield Communities for 75+ years in business.
Finalists for business awards were Next Level Solutions and TierOne Solutions LLC, 1-10 years in business; Phoenix Home Care & Hospice and Toth and Associates Inc., 11-20 years in business; Abacus CPAs LLC and Oasis Hotel & Convention Center, 21-35 years in business; The Arc of the Ozarks and Citizens Memorial Hospital, 36-74 years in business; and CoxHealth and Ollis/Akers/Arney, 75+ years in business.
Five individuals and organizations also were recipients of previously announced awards.
Lifetime Achievement in Business honors went to former U.S. Sen. Roy Blunt. Blunt, a Springfield resident who cut his teeth in politics when he was appointed Greene County clerk in 1973 and rose through the ranks to become a two-term member of the Senate, retired from his legislative office on Jan. 3.
While accepting the award, Blunt told the audience of around 330 that the work he conducted in Washington, D.C., took a strong team.
"It really does matter who you get to help you do these jobs, and I've always had great staff," he said. "It also matters who the other people who are who come together to make things happen."
Additional awards are:
• Community Involvement Champion: Janet Dankert; president/CEO, Community Partnership of the Ozarks Inc.
• Business Advocate of the Year: SpringNet, a division of City Utilities of Springfield.
• Charitable Nonprofit of the Year: Care to Learn.
• Philanthropic Business of the year: Kum & Go LC.
