A new collaborative, one-time beer between two companies will be on tap tonight at 4 by 4 Brewing Co. LLC.

The debut of Fresh Hop of Muell-er is scheduled for a 1990s-themed release party tonight at the Springfield-based brewery, 2811 E. Galloway St., Ste. A, according to a news release. The exclusive brew is the creation of 4 by 4 Brewing Co., accomplished with a beer infusion system called maxxLup from local stainless steel equipment manufacturer Paul Mueller Co. (OTC: MUEL).

“The maxxLup is a uniquely designed system that not only saves the brewer time and money on ingredients, but also allows them to efficiently extract the desired flavors while minimizing unwanted off-flavors,” said Matt Kramer, Mueller Co. sales manager, in the release.

Christine Daues, marketing strategy manager with Paul Mueller Co., said the company has around 15 maxxLup units out in the marketplace, mostly with large regional or national breweries. Those include Fremont Brewing Co. in Seattle, Maui Brewing Co. in Hawaii and A. Smith Bowman Distillery in Fredericksburg, Virginia.

She added 4 by 4 Brewing is the first brewery in Missouri and smallest one to date to use maxxLup.

Fresh Hop of Muell-er is a throwback name to the popular 1990s television sitcom, “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,” according to the release. The IPA beer utilizes fresh Belma hops flown in for the brew, which Daues said would only be available until it sells out.

“At 4 by 4, we are passionate about creating great beer and enjoying it with great company,” said Chris Shaffer, 4 by 4 Brewing head brewer, in the release. “The Fresh Hop of Muell-er is made even more aromatic through Paul Mueller’s maxxLup. This equipment changes the game on flavor infusion and allows us to innovate the way we create new recipes.”

The local brewery is utilizing a 50-gallon unit as part of Mueller Co.’s 30-day loaner program it has been offering to breweries, Daues said. She added 4 by 4 has decided to purchase the unit, but she and brewery co-owner Danielle Shimeall declined to disclose the cost.

Future beers using maxxLup are in the works.
