Springfield's newest brewery opens

Posted online

Springfield's 10th brewery opens for business today.

Prehistoric Brewing Co. LLC announced the launch on Facebook, posting a video showing its use of social distancing and other safety measures to comply with coronavirus rules. Occupancy is limited, and bar seating has not yet been added.

At 1816 S. Glenstone Ave. in the Plaza Shopping Center, Prehistoric Brewing Co. wrapped up construction just prior to when the COVID-19 pandemic forced the closure of most businesses, according to its Facebook page.

Springfield Business Journal previously reported business partners Charley Norton and Keith Davis invested roughly $435,000 for the venture, including a U.S. Small Business Administration-backed loan and around $50,000 in raised capital. In 3,500 square feet, the co-owners added brewing and observation areas, and a tap room. An outdoor seating area is slated to open later.

The local beer market has been adding new breweries consistently since 2011, when Mother’s Brewing Co. opened. It was preceded by Springfield Brewing Co., a full-service restaurant and brewery that started in 1997. Great Escape Beer Works LLC and Hold Fast Brewing are among recent companies to open.
