Slumberland Mattress Plus
Oakdale, Minnesota-based retailer Slumberland Furniture opened a new venture in the Queen City on April 1. Springfield is the first location for Slumberland Mattress Plus, said President Michael Larson. The new store is open in Springfield Plaza at 3890 W. Washita St. Mattresses are the main retail focus for the store, along with pillows, sheets and other bedding-related items, Larson said. Company officials say Slumberland Furniture, which opened a Springfield shop in 2003, has grown to over 120 stores in 12 states. Officials declined to disclose startup costs or lease terms for the Slumberland Mattress Plus store, which employs four and is led by Ian Garner, senior store manager. Larson said the new Springfield shop is roughly 5,000 square feet and around a 15-minute drive from its 40,000-square-foot Slumberland Furniture store at 1831 E. Independence St. Slumberland already has a home delivery crew, trucks and a management system in Springfield, which was helpful for opening a new store in town, he said.

Tie & Timber Pizza Kitchen
Following an extended soft opening period, Tie & Timber Pizza Kitchen began serving the public on April 3 in the Rountree neighborhood. The restaurant from Tie & Timber Beer Co. LLC is in a newly constructed 10,000-square-foot building next to its brewery and beer garden. The restaurant is intended as an expansion project for the brewery, which launched in 2018 at 1451 E. Cherry St. Co-owner Curtis Marshall declined to disclose costs for the project, which was built by H.C. Rogers Construction Group LLC and designed by Arkifex Studios LLC. The first floor has a 100-person seating capacity, as does the top floor, which will serve as event and reserved space. The upstairs area also will accommodate overflow seating for the restaurant as needs dictate, Marshall said. Both floors also include full bars with 16 taps serving Tie & Timber brews. Its menu serves three styles of pizza, including a deep-dish, Detroit-style option, as well as smashburgers, chicken tenders, a chicken sandwich and salads. Prices range $6-$27.

Insurors of the Ozarks
Fourteen years after he joined the company, Bryant Young on April 1 became the new owner of Insurors of the Ozarks. He purchased the Springfield-based insurance company from his father, Greg L. Young, becoming the third-generation owner of the business. Greg Young and his father, the late Bill D. Young, founded the company in 1982. Bryant Young declined to disclose financial terms of the deal for the four-employee insurance firm, which operates at 2104 E. Sunshine St. He said the company primarily serves as a personal insurance agency, with policies including homeowners, automotive and rental property insurance, and it also has a small commercial insurance offering. Young said most of his career has been spent at Insurors of the Ozarks, save for a couple years out of college at a State Farm agency. Insurors of the Ozarks ranked No. 14 on Springfield Business Journal’s 2025 list of the area’s largest independent insurance agencies, based on four agents as the ranking criteria.
