Alumni and students of Jefferson City-based Lincoln University filed suit against the state of Missouri.
The suit alleges violations of the Morrill Act, which requires states to match federal funding of historically Black federally chartered land grant institutions dollar for dollar.
Don Calloway, one of the attorneys bringing the lawsuit, said the state of Missouri only recently started adhering to the Morrill Act.
