Elliott Lodging Ltd. is renovating and rebranding a hotel on the south side of Springfield.
Gordon Elliott, owner of Elliott Lodging, said his company's Arbor Suites Medical Mile, 1260 E. Independence St., is taking on The Bradford Hotel moniker. The concept is part of the Ascend Hotel Collection from Choice Hotels International Inc.
"With it being so closely located to the Medical Mile district, it was a great opportunity for this older hotel to receive a facelift and attract customers wanting an upscale stay," Elliott said via email.
Hotel renovation work, which is being conducted by Elliott Lodging's construction department, is ongoing with a Dec. 31 conversion date planned, he said. The cost of renovating the 22,000-square-foot property was undisclosed. The hotel, which is near Cox South, will remain open during the renovation process.
A news release from Choice Hotels International indicates The Bradford Hotel in Springfield would have 49 rooms. That’s the same number it currently has, Elliott said.
Elliott rebranded the hotel from Crystal Suites after he purchased the Independence Street property in 2010, according to Springfield Business Journal archives.
Elliott said the hotel originally was built in 1993 under the Comfort Suites brand.
Downtown problems partly a product of perception, officials say.
