Project description: Wal-Mart Stores spokesman Dan Morales said the store at the corner of West Mount Vernon Street and North West Bypass is one of four grocery-focused Neighborhood Market stores planned for Springfield. Two stores opened earlier this year – on West Republic Road and on South Glenstone Avenue – and the third, under way at James River Commons in south Springfield, is expected to open by Halloween. Morales said Wal-Mart has plans to hire roughly 90 people for the West Mount Vernon market, which will offer a full line of groceries – produce, frozen foods, meat and dairy products, and organic items – as well as a pharmacy and general merchandise including health and beauty products, pet supplies and paper goods.
