Then: President, Tomo Drug Testing
Now: Co-captain, Ajax
After a decade at Tomo Drug Testing, Alex Haldiman started to feel a call to the sea.
It had been a longtime dream to leave everything behind and sail the Caribbean, and Haldiman and his wife, Jackie, had been saving to make it a reality. He says Tomo needed a leader with strengths different than his own, so after a transition with his colleagues, he took the leap and moved aboard a 47-foot Beneteau sailboat named Ajax in July 2020.
Haldiman, 40, his wife and their cat Cosmo have sailed as far north as Maryland and as far south as the Bahamas. The pair have documented their adventures on social media under the handle Where is Ajax?
A new hobby of Haldiman is spearfishing and preparing his fresh catch aboard. But it’s not all paradise, he says, noting their first storm was humbling.
Haldiman says the couple plans to live a nomadic life for at least a few more years. And RV exploring the U.S. is next.
“We feel so fortunate to see all these places from our home,” he says. “To just drop the anchor and explore.”
