Farmers Gastropub
Farmers Gastropub changed hands Nov. 1, a couple of months after founder Bill Griffiths and his wife Christina agreed to sell the 2620 S. Glenstone Ave. restaurant to the former executive chef of Highland Springs Country Club. Andy Hampshire and his wife Misty are now leasing the 3,500-square-foot English-style pub under a 10-year agreement with Jared Enterprises. Terms of the sale were not disclosed. Since taking over, the Hampshires refreshed the menu on the lunch and dinner items that range from $5-$22. Of course, bangers and mash, fish and chips, and cottage pie remain staples, and so does the emphasis on local, organic and seasonal ingredients, Andy Hampshire said. He brings with him experience from Bass Pro Shops’ Big Cedar Lodge, where he became executive chef in 2008, and from the Hilton Branson Convention Center. The Hampshires added a couple team members and now employ 22. The Griffiths established the pub in October 2009 in downtown Springfield and relocated to the Brentwood Center in late 2013. Hours: 11 a.m.–10 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Phone: (417) 864-6994. Web: FarmersGastropub.com

Black Sheep Burgers and Shakes
Mike Jalili and Billy and Sara Jalili, owners of Flame and Touch, on Nov. 13 opened the family’s third restaurant, Black Sheep Burgers and Shakes at 209 E. Walnut St., the site of former Jalili venture Bijan’s Sea and Grille. Mike Jalili said the family wanted to try its hand at a burger restaurant in the family owned 4,512-square-foot space formerly occupied by The Rebecca Grille and Squeeze Play. He declined to disclose startup costs. Burgers made with house-ground meat range from $7–$13, and gluten-free buns and grass-fed beef patty substitutions are available for an upcharge. The restaurant also serves hot dogs, salads and appetizers. A full bar offers house wines, draft beers and shakes made with Andy’s Frozen Custard and served with optional alcohol. Jalili said the restaurant employs between 60 and 70. Hours: 11 a.m.–10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m.–11 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 11 a.m.–9 p.m. Sunday. Phone: (417) 319-5905.

Garden Cafe
David and Stephanie Fessenden on Aug. 21 bought the Garden Cafe, 4315 S. National Ave. Dean and Cindy Johnson ran the restaurant for 10 years before retiring. David Fessenden said the 1,560-square-foot property is leased in Aundria Plaza for one year at $1,955 per month. Declining to disclose the purchase price, he said they’ve invested less than $15,000 after the acquisition to set up their first restaurant. Featuring pizza, subs and salads, menu items are $7-$10. The cafe, which provide games and puzzles for patrons, also sells glass-bottled soda, such as Fanta, Crush and Route 66. Hours: 11 a.m.–2:30 p.m. and 5–7 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Phone: (417) 883-7992. Web: GardenCafe417.com
