A downtown pizza shop and nearby bar owned by two brothers have closed, according to the landlord.
The Brick Slice House LLC, 308 W. McDaniel St., and Muertos Cantina, 300 W. McDaniel St., closed earlier this month, said building owner Jason Murray. The pizza shop and bar were separated by the office of the Downtown Springfield Association, which
recently moved to the Woolworth building. The DSA space continues to be used by staff members of the Downtown Springfield Community Improvement District, said DSA Executive Director Rusty Worley.
Brothers Taylor and Ryan Bentley opened The Brick Slice House selling pizza by the slice in
October 2014. Their Muertos Cantina bar launched a year ago.
Murray said one of the brothers moved back to California, leading to the closure of the two businesses. He said the brothers had a couple years left on their leases for both spaces.
Attempts to reach the owners have been unsuccessful in recent days. Earlier this month, queries on the pizza shop’s Facebook page asked whether the restaurant was closed. A sign on the door still reads, “Closed for maintenance.”
“Hopefully, we can get another pizza place going in there,” Murray said.
The downtown developer said The Brick Slice House had about 1,175 square feet and 1,700 square feet was occupied by Muertos Cantina. Murray declined to disclose what the asking lease rate is for the two spaces he recently began marketing.
