Dynamic Earth
Dynamic Earth founder Matt O’Reilly sold his outdoor gear store after 12 years to Austin, Texas-based Backwoods, a chain of 10 regional stores. Terms of the Sept. 15 deal were not disclosed. O’Reilly said growing demands for commercial development and social entrepreneurism through Green Circle Projects led him earlier this year to send an acquisition brief to select industry peers. Two responded, and Backwoods Retail Inc. owners, the Mull family, entered negotiations and signed a letter of intent in midsummer. While the acquisition agreement leaves room for Backwoods to change the store’s name, officials say the transition would be minimal at first. “Our intent is to keep much of the customer experience the same,” Backwoods CEO Jennifer Mull said in a news release. Matt Lyons will remain as general manager. O’Reilly said Backwoods has larger chain purchasing capacity, which could lead to new product lines, and a travel program that takes customers on adventure trips. Dynamic Earth operates in O’Reilly’s Green Circle Shopping Center, 1110 E. Republic Road, and the new owners are in a five-year lease with options. Hours: 10 a.m.–7 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m.–6 p.m. Saturday and noon–5 p.m. Sunday. Phone: (417) 877-8855. Web: DynamicEarth.net

Bambino’s Coffee and Smoothie Cafe
The Faucett family added a second Bambino’s restaurant, this one centered on lighter fare and beverages. Bambino’s Coffee and Smoothie Cafe opened Sept. 16 at 2916 S. Lone Pine Ave., next to Fuddruckers. Operator Andy Faucett said the cafe, dubbed B2, sells sandwiches, paninis, pastries and wraps in the $4 to $8 range, as well as smoothies and coffee from local roasteries Mudhouse and Rebel Coffee. The Faucetts, including Andy’s mother, Mary, and his brothers have run Bambino’s Cafe near Missouri State University’s campus since 2001. In midsummer, the Faucetts also purchased The Buzz, a coffee shop across Battlefield Road from B2. Andy Faucett said the family invested $40,000 in remodeling and kitchen equipment for B2. Hours: 7 a.m.–9 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m.–9 p.m. Saturday. Phone: (417) 883-5748. Web: Go2b2.com

The Brick Slice House LLC
Brothers Taylor and Ryan Bentley on Oct. 1 opened downtown pizza shop The Brick Slice House LLC. The owners lease 800 square feet at 308 W. McDaniel St. from Jason Murray. The property housed Amycakes LLC for nearly five years before the bakery’s summer move to 1108 E. Walnut St. The Brick Slice House sells pizza by the slice, as well as calzones, stromboli, side salads, desserts and a range of beers that include locally brewed White River Brewing Co. Hours: 11 a.m.–10 p.m. Monday through Wednesday and 11–2 a.m. Thursday through Saturday. Phone: (417) 720-1329.
