UMB Bank economists Eric Kelley, far left, and KC Mathews, deliver their economic forecast Feb. 12 at Highland Springs Country Club. Themed as “The Showdown” – reflecting trade tensions and tight labor markets – the economists predict only one rate hike by the Fed and GDP growth of 2-2.4 percent this year. “The last thing you want to see is an economic showdown,” Mathews says, yet he forecasts a recession period will hold off another 12-24 months.
