Wal-Mart hiring for west Springfield store

Posted online
Bentonville, Ark.-based Wal-Mart Stores Inc. is hiring approximately 90 employees for its Neighborhood Market store under construction at the corner of West Mount Vernon Street and North West Bypass.

Store Manager Doug Moon said Wal-Mart is hiring full- and part-time associates for the 3536 W. Mount Vernon St. location. In a news release, he noted workers are needed to staff all areas of the store, including supervisory positions.

Wal-Mart is accepting applications at its temporary hiring center, 4200 S. Quail Creek Ave., and online via WalmartStores.com/Careers. The hiring center is open through Aug. 31.

Eligible Wal-Mart associates receive matching 401(k) contributions of up to 6 percent of pay, general merchandise discounts, a stock purchase program and company-paid life insurance, according to the release.

The roughly $1.6 million Neighborhood Market, an approximately 40,000-square-foot store, is estimated to open Oct. 17. Walmart Neighborhood Markets offer a full line of groceries, as well as pharmacy and general merchandise such as health and beauty products, pet supplies and paper goods.

The West Mount Vernon Street Neighborhood Market is one of four planned in Springfield. Two locations - on West Republic Road and on South Glenstone Avenue - opened earlier this year, and another store at James River Commons in south Springfield has a planned opening date of Oct. 31, according to Springfield Business Journal archives.
