Springfield Public Schools promoted its chief financial officer to the overarching role of deputy superintendent-operations.
Carol Embree, a three-year SPS employee and its current CFO and chief operations officer, takes on the role effective July 1, according to a news release.
Embree’s expanded role oversees the human resources department, in addition to her current responsibilities for the finance and operations departments. SPS Chief Human Resources Officer Penney Rector now will report directly to Embree. Additionally, Embree’s operations team will assume oversight of school safety and emergency planning.
“Carol is a key member of our cabinet and she continues to work tirelessly to move our system forward each and every day and to effect the change that we all desire for SPS and our 25,000 students,” Superintendent John Jungmann said in the release. “Her commitment to continuous improvement has had a major impact on our system and I look forward to seeing how this expanded role positively impacts these additional departments.”
The school board unanimously approved a two-year contract for Embree during the executive session of its June 27 meeting.
The superintendent’s cabinet is comprised of executive leaders Embree, Rector, Chief Learning Officer Mike Dawson and a chief communications officer, who is expected to be hired in the next few months, according to the release.
