Report: National Geographic lays off all staff writers

National Geographic cut 17 editorial positions, including all of its staff writers, departing employees told CNN Business.

The publication's entire podcast staff and a group of editors also reportedly were ousted.

A former staffer said the full-time employees would be replaced by a roster of freelance writers. Some digital content would be written by in-house editors, the staffer said.
