Peter Herschend chosen for Lifetime Achievement in Business

Posted online
Herschend Family Entertainment Corp. co-owner Peter Herschend will receive Lifetime Achievement in Business honors during Springfield Business Journal’s 2016 Economic Impact Awards recognizing excellence in business and impact on the community.

The 81-year-old was instrumental in starting Silver Dollar City around the family’s Marvel Cave, which led to a business that today operates theme parks, resorts and aquariums – entities including Ride the Ducks, White Water, Dollywood and the Harlem Globetrotters – in 26 locations.

Chosen by an independent panel of judges, the award is one of several presented during the 17th annual awards banquet, scheduled July 28 at the Ramada Plaza Hotel & Oasis Convention Center, 2546 N. Glenstone Ave.

Billy and John McQueary, co-owners of Hotel Vandivort, will receive Entrepreneur of the Year honors; Jared Enterprises Inc. was named Philanthropic Business of the Year; Rep. Eric Burlison, R-Springfield, earned Business Advocate of the Year; Crista Hogan of the Springfield Metropolitan Bar Association will be honored as Community Involvement Champion; and Isabel’s House was named Charitable Nonprofit of the Year, an award returning to EIA specifically for charities that don’t charge for services.

Economic Impact honors also will be announced in four categories based on years in business. Finalists, in alphabetical order, are:

Hurts Donut Co., Phoenix Home Care Inc. and Revel Advertising, in the one to five years in business category;

CNH Reman LLC, Everything Kitchens LLC and Paragon Architecture Inc., for the six to 15 years in business category;

• Gold Mechanical Inc., JMark Business Solutions Inc. and Russell Cellular Inc., for 16 to 29 years in business; and

Citizens Memorial Healthcare, CoxHealth and Pyramid Foods for 30 or more years in business.

The Economic Impact Awards banquet begins 5:30 p.m. July 28. Tickets are $65 apiece and available at SBJ.net/EIA.
